The Fox and the Falcon is a short story by Dee Carey. King Arthur had fallen gravely ill and so had many townsfolk of Camelot. If nothing is done soon all of Camelot will perish from this new illness. The great wizard Merlin is dumbfounded by this sudden outbreak and he enlists the help of a few magical creatures to aid him. Merlin and his furry friends soon learn that the illness is not natural and they conclude that someone has been poisoning all of Camelot. During their investigation, Merlin's party will uncover some dubious plots and all manner of surprises await the group. Who would want to harm King Arthur and dare to incur the wrath of Merlin?
The Fox and the Falcon is a charming short story with a lot of light-hearted moments. I enjoyed the plot and although it seemed to be fairly straightforward at first, because all the characters had to do is cure the illness, as I read on more elements were introduced. The result was not one I expected to come across in a short story. Transitions between chapters were smooth and not once did I feel as though the author had left out some content to keep the page count low. The character development was spot on as well, which is most welcome. This is a good effort by Dee Carey, and I'd recommend this book to readers that enjoy short stories in the mythical genre.
