The Flaming Cats of Sohan is an action-packed sci-fi novel by Mark William Hammond and Hilary Gardner Wright. Eighteen-year-old Bill Houston's life turns upside down when he unexpectedly encounters a distressed penguin deep in the desert of Arizona. Soon, he finds himself chased by assassins hell-bent on killing him. It turns out those assassins were sent by the leader of a group of aliens called the Bloorthas, who plan to rid this planet of humans. Now, Bill teams up with Ruak, the colorful assistant of an eccentric Swami, and an unnaturally huge furry cat called El Gato to stop the aliens from spreading mass hysteria and destruction. As the little group traverses America and Europe, they are joined by additional members in their fight against the aliens.
Funny and full of action, The Flaming Cats of Sohan is a rollercoaster of a ride in which you're never quite sure where you're going to end up. Authors Mark William Hammond and Hilary Gardner Wright spin a fast-paced yarn about a teenager and his friends trying to stop an alien invasion that threatens to end life on the planet as you know it. Hollywood movies like Mad Max and MIB seem to have had a big impact on the authors as you can clearly discern their influence on the narrative. However, the story still feels fresh with unique qualities of its own. I particularly enjoyed the dynamic between Bill and Ruak. Recommended to fans of buddy comedies and action-packed sci-fi thrillers alike.
