Karen Wiesner and Chris Spindler weave a mystery that keeps the reader on edge throughout "The Fifteenth Letter". Their story tells of Amber Carfi, who at age seven spent hours with her father devising a secret code to a nonexistent globe Zeke promised to construct for her. Amber, now cop, brings her father home when he is paroled from prison after serving fifteen years for killing his partner during a bank robbery. Amber possesses her father’s diary and maps and is being stalked by someone who wants both. She fights a battle for her life when she and Zeke are kidnapped, beaten and hidden in a remote cabin deep in the woods. Her partner, Warren Jenson, is determined to rescue her and put the perpetrators away for good. Amber must face her own demons with her father, and her partner, if she manages to successfully escape her imprisonment alive.
Without a doubt Karen Wiesner and Chris Spindler write with an intensity that kept me immersed in "The Fifteenth Letter". I felt I was with Amber Carfi at every turn in her search for the truth. At the same time their characters’ personalities and quirks demonstrated both their best and unscrupulous sides which adds to entertainment for the reader. Descriptions easily allowed me to imagine the lives as well as scenes throughout the novel. The authors fulfilled the promise of a good read while creating an easy flow of action from page to page. I look forward to reading other books in the Falcon Bend Series.
