Hi, Six years ago, after retiring from a multi-branched church musician/teacher/performer career I took up serious and fun writing/publishing. "The Fairfax Fix" is a typical, thriller and page-turner, meant to entertain as well as enlighten the reader about a serious problem. This book was inspired by a true criminal case in Fairfax, Virginia, where a gang of thugs was convicted of kidnapping young girls into a prostitute ring. Warning--there are a couple of graphic scenes, but otherwise it has a satisfying ending, as do all my novels.

The Fairfax Fix features ex-cop Mike McBride. Author Dorothy May Mercer jumps into the story with a brief résumé about his life before he arrives in Washington D.C. as the Junior Senator for New Mexico. He is married to Juliette – Juli – who supported him on the campaign trail, and he misses her, his dog, and his colleagues at Carson City Police Department. Politics doesn't have the thrill or the power buzz of action that he expected so, bored, he volunteers to help Chief Donald English of the Fairfax police with an investigation into what is happening to teenage girls who mysteriously vanish. He’s accepted, partnered with Jordan and George, and the three begin door-to-door enquiries around where some of the girls lived, but the story hots up fast and what is revealed is grippingly horrific.
Dorothy May Mercer has a strong, well-grounded hero in Mike McBride, and she uses him very effectively to grab and hold readers' interest in the deceptively slow build-up to revelations about sex trafficking and the methods gangs use to force their victims into prostitution, from which, of course, the girls make virtually nothing, overworked and living in misery, whilst the drug barons grow rich. The introduction shows how easily one of the girls, Elyce Diablo, is flattered and tempted, but she is the daughter of the New Mexico Senator, in effect, Mike’s political “boss”, so his involvement and its success or failure become crucial. The Fairfax Fix is an enthralling read, but be warned – the sex scenes, including gang rape, are explicit.
