The Executioner's Hood by Loretta Jackson and Vickie Britton is a tale of intrigue, mystery and murder. Phil Grayson, respected judge and collector of Old West memorabilia, is found dead with an executioner's hood over his head – a hood that has come from his own collection. It is up to Sheriff Jeff McQuede to find his killer and the first person that comes to mind is Darin Keefe. He was put away by Judge Grayson after the judge’s best friend took a bribe from Keefe’s company, a construction firm. It was believed that the friend, John Harwood, committed suicide but now things may not be as clear-cut as first thought. Is Keefe the killer? Has he come back for murderous revenge? Or is there another murderer on the rampage in the county? There is only one way to find out.
The Executioner's Hood by Loretta Jackson and Vickie Britton is a tense murder mystery, one that has a number of twisting turns along the way. I found it to be a book that kept me on my toes, a story that caught hold and would not let go. I think that both authors have done a great job here – sometimes the best novels come from collaborations rather than a single writer because ideas can be pooled and a fresh mind can see things more clearly. The story has been well researched, extremely well written and was a joy to read. I believe it would make a good TV film.
