The Evil Covid Ninja: A Grandmother's Letter to Her Grandchildren by Pamela Tomlin is an informative book that speaks about Covid-19 in an interesting and engaging way. A grandmother is writing to her grandchildren, telling them about the Covid Ninja which people on the planet have been unable to understand. She further writes that the Covid Ninja is evil, invisible, sneaky, and can attack without anyone noticing. He can make people really sick if he gets inside them and the sickness has been named Coronavirus or Covid-19. She tells her grandchildren how they have Super Ninjas on their side and how they can help to defeat the evil Covid Ninja and protect themselves from falling ill. She explains how the Super Ninjas work together when attacked by the evil Covid Ninja, and in spite of that, why masks and other precautions are necessary to stay safe. She misses watching her grandchildren play on the slide and swing, and dig for coins and gems in the sandbox, and tells them that she looks forward to being with them soon.
The topic is informative and highly relevant in these times when there is so much confusion going around regarding the Covid-19 virus. It is heartwarming to read how the grandmother sends them the letter, some ninja masks for them and their parents, and some chocolate chip cookies to remind them how much she loves them. Pamela Tomlin also reassures readers that scientists are working hard to find a solution that can beat the evil Covid Ninja. Tamara Piper gives clarity to the concept with her wonderful illustrations. The Evil Covid Ninja is definitely a good book to have on the bookshelf at home and in school libraries to help children understand Covid-19 in an entertaining way and teach them how to take precautions and protect themselves.
