Ronnie Masters turns to the only person who can help her locate her missing brother and husband, her former partner Australian pilot Mitch Blaine. Together, Mitch and his friend Beyer fly with Ronnie halfway around the world to Page, Arizona to confront ancient Native American spirits thought only to be legends – Skinwalkers. The Escalante Enigma by Rod Lewin follows the trip from Sydney to the US in a vintage WWII flying boat and provides an inside look at the rigors of such a flight and the diplomatic maneuvering required to pass through so many borders, all made easy by Beyer’s connections to influential people across the world. When the group discovers a hidden canyon with inhabitants never before seen, the job of rescuing the travelers who are trapped in this dimension becomes a major undertaking. Will they escape with their lives or only become one more mystery in the vast, unforgiving canyon area of Utah?

Rod Lewin has created a wonderful fictional story around the ancient supernatural beliefs of Native Americans and the secrets of the US government’s scientists. The Escalante Enigma ties it all together with a gentle love story and plenty of adventure as the characters race against the clock and confront situations no one could anticipate. Engaging, exciting and quite descriptive, the book maintains a great pace and keeps the action lively. From the beauty of Sydney Harbor to the exotic Pacific Islands and into the vast, desolate, starkly beautiful canyon lands of the American Southwest, the trio bravely follows the clues into the unknown. Great story, well written and completely engrossing!
