The Elixir of Freedom by M.R. Neer is the first novel in The Light Finder Legends series. The story follows the struggles of Ravi. His life is not idyllic, but it is not that bad either. However, things change for him when his brother is kidnapped by the Mine Master's people; they have taken his brother Vik to work in the mines. The mine itself is becoming a health hazard for Ravi’s people. When things get out of hand, Ravi seeks help from Raam and his legends.
Legend has it that if someone finds the Heart of the Sun (light), he can defeat all of his enemies. Ravi goes on a journey to find that light so he can save his brother and his people from the deranged terror of the Mine Master. But finding the light is not easy. He will have to win battles and conquer all of his shortcomings before he can find the Heart of the Sun and help his people.
This is a really amazing story. I picked up this book, read the first page, and I was hooked. I just could not stop myself. The story is great, the fantastic elements were great, and the characterization was spot on. I loved the plot, how it sprung up and become a giant, living being. It is a well-conceived novel that will stick in your mind and make you think about it long after you have finished reading.
