"The Dreamers" by Oliver Dahl is a highly original epic adventure which had me on the edge of my seat throughout. Dahl writes the story of Sam Kullen, a young boy with a wild imagination who falls asleep one night and is transported into a mystical land where he finds out he is a Dreamer. Dreamers don’t have normal dreams; they visit their dreams in mind and body, meaning if they get hurt in a dream they will be hurt in real life making the adventure that much riskier and dangerous. Kullen isn’t your average dreamer either; he dazzles other dreamers with his amazing abilities to manipulate the dreamer realm, and plays an ultimate role in the battle to defeat Malfix who wants to take over the Dream realm and ultimately the world! Only Sam Kullen can stop him...
Dahl writes in a captivating way with humour throughout. He developed his characters well enough for me to feel an attachment to them as the story unfolded, though at times Sam can go off at a tangent which he notes himself. I love Dahl’s creativity and despite the immense amount of different parts and events in his novel I don’t feel he went overboard. I can honestly say I have never read a book like this one and I am looking forward to his sequel.
