The Devil's Angel by John F Conn is a riveting supernatural thriller with strong religious underpinnings. The author recreates the battle between the Fallen Angel and God and the forces pitted against each other are personified in two longtime friends, NYC detectives Michael Ryan and Lucas Cole. Both men have grown up as close friends but they both suffer from strange visions. Little do they know that their destinies have been set long before their births. One fights to create a New Order while the other fights to preserve his humanity. This time around can the Devil outwit God in a spiritual battle taking place in mortal flesh. The stakes are high and the tension builds up with dizzying speed.
John F Conn shows great storytelling skills and he invents characters that are real, though engaged in a battle that isn't just spiritual. There are historical and biblical references, with allusions to personages like Pontius Pilate. I also enjoyed the relevant use of mythology in the narrative and the author weaves these elements into the narrative without distracting readers from the main plot points. The conflict is phenomenal and deftly handled, and readers will find themselves looking forward to an explosive denouement, loving the characters and developing sympathy for them. The creativity comes out brilliantly in this purely original story that explores the proverbial conflict between good and evil. The Devil's Angel is gripping and the reader will be keen to learn if the angel fashioned by the Devil can outsmart the designs of God.
