The Day We Saved the World by Katie Smotherman is the exciting story of thirteen-year-old Alex Tice who is on his way to school when someone knocks on the door. His parents open the door to find a man and a woman there. While one brainwashes his parents, the second one connects with Alex telepathically. Alex has a gift. He has genetic mutation and he can absorb the powers of other super heroes if he is in close proximity with them. Alex is then taken to a superhero camp where he is put alongside with other teenagers who have super powers. Readers see these teenagers trying to save the world in this fun and adventurous story.

Superheroes are back with a bang. It's a story that all children will enjoy reading. Alex makes new friends in the camp and learns how to use his powers. The story with its twists and turns and action is fast paced and keeps young readers glued to the book till the very end. The author's imagination is engaging and entertaining as the story progresses; the writing style is fluid and interesting. The exploits of Alex and his friends, coupled with Alex's unique powers, make the book an amazing one. Alex's character is endearing. The plot is well executed and it's a quick read. It's the type of story even adults will enjoy reading. It's a neat and simple story that children will enjoy and will make them imagine and behave like superheroes!
