The Day the Pictures Disappeared: Cinderella by Jennifer Swenson is an entertaining storybook for all kids; especially for those who have a creative and artistic streak running through them and are waiting to be discovered. Miss Mayda, the librarian of Providence Town, finds out that every illustration has been wiped from the books in the library. She knows nobody will be interested in reading a book without pictures. So she decides to go and find her own illustrators to add shapes, lines and colors to the books. There is an artist hidden inside every child and the author gives them a platform to showcase their aesthetic abilities through the book.
Wow! What a perfect platform for kids to discover their aesthetic abilities and creativity! I found the book original and perfect for children. It gives them the opportunity to discover their hidden talents and what a novel way of encouraging readers to draw and color. The book can be used for interactive sessions in classrooms and all libraries. The Cinderella story encourages readers to imagine and create their own images and shade them using colors of their choice. The entire book is indeed a good learning experience for kids. It's also a good bedtime storybook and parents and grandparents can read it out to their kids and grandkids.
The idea of writing a book like this is indeed unique. Children are pulled into the story and are encouraged to think freely. It's the ideal space for them to delve into themselves and use their own choice of shades and shapes to create pictures.
