The Dark Age Chronicles: Eve of Darkness, written by T. L. Bailey, invites us into the magical world of warriors, demons, and darkness. Eve is a beautiful young girl who has been raised in a very strict, abusive, and harsh way. She didn't have a normal childhood, nor did she receive any love while growing up. As it turns out, her upbringing was like that for a very dark reason. Eve now has to find out who she really is, and awaken her powers in order to save the world that she always wanted to see and be a part of. Together with Black, a drunken pirate that she met along the way, Matt, a doctor, and other quite colorful characters who were put in her way to protect her on her mission to save the world and fight the biggest evil that exists out there, Eve goes on a journey of discovery, love, friendship and learning what having a family really means.
Eve of Darkness is set in 1717, an age where people were barely surviving, and slavery and ignorance were a normal part of everyday life. The age of darkness is descending upon this world, where Eve, the last one of her kind, has no other choice but to fight against all sorts of evil. Hellhounds, demons, and other dark creatures stand in her way to conquer her fears and save the world and everyone in it. Interesting, exciting, and filled with action, this novel will keep you on the edge of your seat all the way through.
In audiobook format, Eve of Darkness transports the reader into the dark ages. It is skillfully performed by Wesley Bruff, who gives the characters their rightful voice and creates an eerie and gloomy atmosphere for the reader to get immersed in while listening. His interpretation of the characters is spot on and depicts the time period accurately. The exchange of different accents, the eerie and often violent sounds that make up the environment that Eve, Black, and Matt, together with other characters, have to navigate in order to win the fight against evil, elevates the enjoyment of listening to his performance. I enjoyed every moment of this exciting audio journey through the darkest depths of the world; it was dynamic and without a dull moment all the way through.
