The Creator’s Descendants by Allici Edragal, the first book of the Rebirth of the Heiress series, starts off in a prison cell containing the greatest threat to the World Government – fifteen-year-old Althea. After nine years of imprisonment, interrogation, and torture, Althea is freed by Dominic and Joseph. Althea must now train, fight, and lead the rebels against Orion, the other Descendant and leader of the World Government, toppling his corrupt reign. It's not all training and bloodshed, however, as Althea has been imprisoned since the age of six with very little human contact and interactions. Not only must Althea train her body, develop her abilities and powers as a Descendant, but she must also grow as a person by learning how much the world has changed and discovering new emotions through the relationships she forges.
Allici Edragal’s The Creator’s Descendants’ characters charmed me throughout with their interactions and dialogue. Althea is wonderfully written and truly captures the feeling of a young girl seeing the world for the first time after being given her freedom back. All the wonder, anxiety, and feeling of discovery are beautifully captured by Allici Edragal. I found the dialogue and interactions between the characters to be interesting and innocent, putting a smile on my face more than once while the undertone of the serious war lying ahead always threatened to surface. Althea’s ever-growing arsenal of abilities is an exciting journey and has me looking forward to seeing the limits of her powers in the future. The Creator’s Descendants is a great first entry for a series of prophecy, magic, and self-discovery.
