The Correction by John Hazen begins in 1264 in a castle in England, and Joseph fills us in on the following eight hundred years of his family’s background. We very quickly learn that the Vance family is a very different and special group of people. They perform Corrections. Joe and his descendants can touch a person and send them back to an earlier time in their life. Joe talked and listened to people, and when he thought they were worthy but had just taken a wrong turn in the past, he could fix it. Joe was gifted, and if they said the right thing, he was able to return them to a time right before the mistake was made. The gift was somehow given to the firstborn, and they were taught the power and value of that gift and made sure to pass it on to the next generation of the Vance family.
The Correction by John Hazen is a very interesting and entertaining story. The Correction, while basically a time travel story, has so much more than that. I was drawn into Joe’s life as we met Olivia, the woman he truly loved and would do anything for. We also become aware of his family, friends, and co-workers and they are made to feel like friends as we read The Correction. I was really sad to come to the end of this book and not be a part of the continuing Corrections that I am sure would follow. The Correction is a time-travel, family, romantic saga spanning years and years and is a must-read. It is a sure winner!
