Hernani Alves knows about success—he was president of a $3 billion company. Alves shares his wisdom and knowledge in The Champion Advantage: Get The Mindset to Win at Home and Work. This self-help book encourages readers to accept responsibility for their lives, rather than making excuses, and to focus on what’s important now (WIN). Alves also emphasizes several other ingredients of success, such as maintaining a passion for your work, pushing yourself physically and mentally, and serving others. He underscores the importance of persistence, noting that many successful people failed at first. Numerous anecdotes, both from Alves’ life and others, enliven the book. Alves uses examples of successful and highly regarded people in diverse fields, including Nelson Mandela, Richard Branson, Walt Disney, and Michael Jordan.
It’s been said that “nothing succeeds like success,” meaning that succeeding in one endeavor leads to success in others. It follows that reading about, and learning from, the success of others can help us become more successful. That principle is the value of The Champion Advantage: Get The Mindset to Win at Home and Work. Anyone who follows the tenets—what Alves calls “action items”—laid out in this book will see life changes. However, as Hernani Alves points out, readers must have the desire to change and acknowledge that they alone are responsible. This book, with its stories of successful people, should give readers that desire. Alves’ many injunctions to his readers to control their own destiny should give readers the impetus.
