The Button by D.L. Finn is the story of Lynn Hill, a young girl who thought that her life would turn around just as she left her childhood behind and joined the ranks of adulthood. Trying to enjoy her life surrounded by people she loved and believed loved her back, she had no idea her life would come crashing down when she decided she would like another drink at a party. Soon after, she is surrounded by people who might not be human, but it is humans that she fears the most. There is something going on in her life, something truly terrible is waiting to happen and she is trying her best to stop it before it does. But here’s the thing; she has no idea what it is and if she can stop it. What can Lynn do when she doesn’t even know who she can trust or if she even has friends?
This paranormal romance and thriller takes the reader on a wild journey in which the protagonist is trying to decide who to trust and who is not worthy of it. Fast paced and action packed; this is a great novel from one of my favorite authors. I always have high expectations from D.L. Finn and she always finds a way to blow me away with her sheer creativity and excellence. This novel was no different; it had amazingly developed characters, stunning imagery and heart stopping suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat!
I expected nothing less from D.L. Finn and she has kept the tradition of amazing me. Lynn is such a strong character, she is aware of her vulnerabilities, yet she is not afraid to show them. She is headstrong at sometimes, but this is what makes her human and relatable. I loved the whole suspense around her step brother, how she was trying to find her best friend and how tired she seemed when she hit one dead end after another. Why? Because these made her human! This is more than a romance; this is an empowering story, one that I thoroughly enjoyed.
