The Button by D.L. Finn is the story of Lynn Hill, a young girl who thought that her life would turn around just as she left her childhood behind and joined the ranks of adulthood. Trying to enjoy her life surrounded by people she loved and believed loved her back, she had no idea her life would come crashing down when she decided she would like another drink at a party. Soon after, she is surrounded by people who might not be human, but it is humans that she fears the most. There is something going on in her life, something truly terrible is waiting to happen and she is trying her best to stop it before it does. But here’s the thing; she has no idea what it is and if she can stop it. What can Lynn do when she doesn’t even know who she can trust or if she even has friends?

This paranormal romance and thriller takes the reader on a wild journey in which the protagonist is trying to decide who to trust and who is not worthy of it. Fast paced and action packed; this is a great novel from one of my favorite authors. I always have high expectations from D.L. Finn and she always finds a way to blow me away with her sheer creativity and excellence. This novel was no different; it had amazingly developed characters, stunning imagery and heart stopping suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat!

I expected nothing less from D.L. Finn and she has kept the tradition of amazing me. Lynn is such a strong character, she is aware of her vulnerabilities, yet she is not afraid to show them. She is headstrong at sometimes, but this is what makes her human and relatable. I loved the whole suspense around her step brother, how she was trying to find her best friend and how tired she seemed when she hit one dead end after another. Why? Because these made her human! This is more than a romance; this is an empowering story, one that I thoroughly enjoyed.

The Button by D.L. Finn is a paranormal romance novel that would appeal most to a mixed audience of young adults and adults who enjoy the genres of mystery, fantasy, and the supernatural, and who do not mind swear words. Lynn Hill is a young woman with a difficult past whose life took a sudden turn when she began to hear voices in her head giving her warnings. Lynn quickly finds herself being pulled between the forces of good and evil who wish to either help or harm her. Is there anyone Lynn can trust enough to help her make sense of what is happening to her or will her unwillingness to trust others lead to her downfall?

The Button by D.L. Finn is a fast paced thriller that dropped me right into the middle of Lynn’s story. I really liked that the author did not begin the book with a prologue focused on the background of the main character; instead, the prologue focused on the angels that were watching over her. This opening served to grab my interest at it gave the book a supernatural feel to it and made me want to know why angels were so focused on one young woman. The author did a great job in spreading out information about Lynn’s background throughout the book in a way that kept me interested in learning more about her as a character without becoming bored. Overall, I found myself enjoying this book quite a bit and it reminded me of my favorite TV series, Supernatural.

At the age of 18, Lynn Hill left home, left behind her abusive and cold family to start a new life with new friends, taking with her a button she used to wear. Several years earlier, she survived a suicide attempt, saved unbeknownst to her by angels. One night out is about to change everything. Lynn and Stacy, her best friend, are out on the town but everything is about to go horribly wrong. Lynn keeps hearing voices in her head, voices that tell her to leave but she thinks it's down to too much alcohol. Just one more drink was the wrong decision as a chain of events is set in motion, events that she could never have foreseen and that she simply wasn’t prepared for. Humans and non-humans are vying to harm her or help her and Lynn needs to find Stacy – quickly. Who can help – the bartender who gave her his phone number or the stepbrother who appears at the right time? Stacy is the only person she trusts but Lynn needs to learn to put trust in others. Will she make the right decision or will she end up paying for it with her life?

The Button by D.L. Finn is an intriguing paranormal romance story. The Button started a bit slowly for me but it soon picked up the pace. This is more than just a tale of the paranormal; it’s a story about learning to build trust in others, in letting others into your life to help when needed. This is a different story to many others in its genre, which did make a nice change. I cannot fault the character development; there was sufficient backstory to explain the characters in the current time and enough of a plot to keep me reading all the way through. It doesn’t have too many twists and turns in it, and the story jogs along at a fair pace and has a reasonable amount of action in it. For fans of the genre, this is a good book.

Lynn hadn't had an easy life, but a failed suicide attempt left her able to hear the voices of angels, or more specifically the voices of those who watched over her, Thomas and Zelina. Long ago Thomas had made a mistake, one that had consequences on Lynn's life, and he was determined to set things back on track. But they could only guide her, it was up to her if she listened. When Lynn wakes up next to a dead body, with no idea how she got there, she begins to panic. There was a reason Lynn's life had been difficult; she was firmly in the sights of Dian, an evildwel, a being that lives off fear and anger, and it had attached itself to someone in her life. But something bigger is in the works, a hidden quest, the kidnapping of her friend Stacy, and the strange shooting of 'good cops'. Is it all connected, or is this just another unlucky run in the tragedy that has become Lynn's life?

The Button is a thrilling and tense paranormal mystery/romance by D.L. Finn. It focuses around Lynn, the two angels watching over her and the evildwel, and alternates between their points of view whilst remaining in a gripping third-person narrative. Lynn is a good protagonist for this story, and you'll spend the first half of the book wondering who she should put her trust in - Kent, the handsome bartender she met the same night she was drugged to wake up next to a dead drug dealer, or her step-brother Warren, who has returned into her life. I enjoyed the guessing and air of mystery, as well as the tense and escalating plot. Action, terror, adventure, and tragedy combine to make a tense tale of trust, betrayal, and a little dose of divine intervention.

The Button by D.L. Finn is a paranormal thriller surrounding a young adult named Lynn Hill in a small, unincorporated suburb on the outskirts of San Francisco, CA. Lynn graduates from high school and has every reason to hope that the turn of a new decade and the dawn of the '80s will provide the life she was determined to build for herself. Beginning with a night out with fake IDs and her friend Stacy, Lynn drinks the night away, sniffs blow, flirts with an encouraging bartender, and starts to hear voices. In a terrifying haze of events, Lynn's auspicious start to a new life quickly starts to unravel, forcing her to confront dangers - both real and imagined - with fatal consequences. The forces of the paranormal, messages from the other side, and a series of suspenseful occurrences leave her with little choice than to trust those who may or may not be friend or foe.

I was already half-sold on D.L. Finn's The Button when I read its description, but went absolutely all-in when on the first page I saw that it was set in Castro Valley, California...where both of my parents were born and raised! Finn does a great job moving between her point of view characters, which helps in a story line that would otherwise be pretty complex to follow. The dialogue is natural even when the themes run through the supernatural, creating a tale that feels authentic. I'd classify The Button within the realm of literary fiction as much as paranormal since the approach toward the latter has an intelligence to its application not found in the usual thriller genres with simple jumps and goosebumps. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a good read and some really fun '80s pop culture.
