The drama in the storyline is riveting, to say the least. Just when I thought I finally understood the unusual dynamic between Alex and Maggie, trust E.D. Beaty to throw in a new angle from the least expected source. The surprises tumble in by the chapter. The conversations are deep, natural, and very easy to identify with. I particularly like the way the focus of the story moves fluidly between the sisters without losing a reader. The Book Of Scattered Memories is an example of the drama genre at its finest.

The characters were excellently developed. They were relatable and could be anyone I know. They were a close group of family and friends who were looking out for each other. The major twist at the end almost made my heart stop. I couldn't believe that something like this could happen now. Fortunately, everything worked out for the best. The ending was a perfect conclusion to this roller coaster ride.

The main characters are Maggie, Marty, Alex, Joseph, Ben, Larry, Jasmine, Mark, and Tina all together with new characters that make short and interesting appearances throughout, bringing their own roles to this delightful family story. The author tells this wonderful tale with a very human and down-to-earth touch. The second book is written with the same passion as the first. The community that rallies around the main characters is so gentle and understanding that it makes the reader think how, in today’s times, those communities are long gone and don’t exist anymore.

The Book of Scattered Memories takes so many twists and turns that at the end, the reader thinks, well, there is nothing else that can go wrong but the twist in the tale is there and what a twist. I really enjoyed catching up with this family. E.D. Beaty grabs the reader's attention again from the first page to the last and they will find that they will experience a host of emotions both good and bad right up to the end. This book is not one that you can skip pages as the twist at the end will then still be a mystery. I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to seeing if there is a sequel.
