The Birth of Vengeance by P.A. Ross is about a young adult protagonist, Jonathan, who has a miserable life. He would do anything to change things. At school, Jonathan suffers and is traumatized by ignorant and ruthless bullies. No authoritative figure steps in to assist him, no one at all, leaving Jonathan the epitome of a defenseless, victimized male. Later, he finds power in an unusual way, through the help of a female vampire named Thorn at the secret research facility where his father works. He helps her to escape. Together with the seductive vampire plus his injected vampire power, he manages to escape from his melancholy. In the end, he seeks revenge. His former bullies would never guess he was coming for them as a vampire.
The Birth of Vengeance by P.A. Ross will not disappoint readers who enjoy drama, turmoil, revolt, the paranormal, and revenge. The events in the story hit close to real-life circumstances similar to the devastating effects of bullying. Fiction parallels reality in this regard and is worse when the bullying is from powerful gangs. Many will relate to the pangs of anxiety, depression, and fury of the protagonist. Ross nails it when it comes to depicting the poignant pain of the protagonist and the guilt of his inability to fix things. The plot is a roller coaster ride of ups and downs. Ross surprised me with the unexpected sting-in-the-tail twist revealed at the end of the book. The Birth of Vengeance is a good page-turner with plenty of suspense and drama.
