The Bible Burros: Finding Bethlehem by Erin James is designed to be shared with your family or in a classroom setting. Three burros are making their way to Bethlehem. Uriah and Adriel are brothers, with their sister Sapphira. As the three of them slowly make their way through the desert they realize they are lost. When the sun goes down, they are unsure which way to go. Then they remember that their Papa told them how God is in everything. How will they ask God for help? What sort of help will God send them? Will the three burros finally find Bethlehem?
Erin James has created three distinctly different burros in The Bible Burros: Finding Bethlehem. This is not a Christmas story, but it does reference the burros' relative who plays a part in getting Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. The trio squabble and argue like real siblings but come together when they need to find a solution. As a former Sunday school teacher, I enjoyed the message that God is always available to talk to when facing a problem. The illustrations use bold, bright colors, and each of the burros is unique. The desert setting is beautiful as is the delightful star-filled sky. Erin James has included several questions at the end of the book that will encourage kids to go back and look at the small details. This is a story that will entertain kids at any time of the year.
