This was an incredibly well written novel. Bryant took characters that are intriguing and an unusual plot line that has ups, downs, ins and outs like no other novel I've read. The demons she created were lifelike and real, and I could almost feel these demons in my own life while I read this. Bryant is a new-to-me author and I enjoyed reading her book. However, it is not one that I would have purchased had I noticed it in a book store.
Facing ones demons is what I thought The Beautiful Evil would be about. According to the description, it's a psychological thriller. When I think of psychological I think of things like kidnappings and serial killers. Well, this one is about demons. Demons that befriend Constance. Demons that affect her. Demons that haunt her. Totally NOT the kind of psychological thriller that I was expecting.
The Beautiful Evil really showed good versus evil. Constance lost her father at a young age, and was not allow to speak of it. Her mother controlled her life, picking her friends and choosing how Constance would live her life. Constance yearned for someone to depend on, someone who wouldn't control her life. She meets that one true friend...in herself.
When Constance grew older, her life was still controlled. That's when her demons are unleashed and her life turns to total darkness and a living hell of men and mystery.
If you enjoy the thrills of not knowing what will happen next, please read this book. I will definitely read more work from Ms. Bryant. I love the way she creates her characters and her plot lines. All in all this was an adventure for me.
