The Ballad of Llewellynn was written by Robert Rowen. The Prologue sets the scene for this amazing tale. Arthur was a child playing hide and seek with his father when a group of armed men broke through the door and murdered both his parents. They came looking for Arthur. The child hid in a secret room, staying concealed until he was sure the murderers were gone. Most readers have heard various versions of the ancient tale of King Arthur and Merlin. To some it seems a myth but to others there is, at the very least, a hint of truth. In Robert Rowen’s account of this tale, Merlin was Jeff Warren, a college student from the 21st century. Jeff had long wondered what it was really like in Arthur’s day. He wondered how much was fact and how much was fiction.
Jeff was in the village of Llewellynn, England, on break and to visit Tom, a friend of his from school. Tom’s father, a scientist, was conducting an experiment when something went wrong and Jeff was transported back to the time of King Arthur where the simplest things convinced people Jeff was a wizard. Jeff wanted to find his way home but if that wasn’t possible he would adapt to his adopted town and do all he could to help them.
Author Robert Rowen puts his own unique spin on the story of Merlin. I found this tale to be thoroughly entertaining. The characters are fascinating, especially Jeff. The author captured the ambiance of the time. The Ballad of Llewellynn has something for everyone with a touch of romance, action, adventure, myth, fantasy, and suspense.
