The Ant Man of Malfen begins by introducing the character of Nils. He and the Dwarf are traveling together. Nils agreed to bring the Nameless Dwarf to Jankson Brau. The Dwarf is searching for dwarf of Arx Gravis. The Dwarf is quite a formidable character with his twin ax wrapped in cloth held high over his shoulder. “I need to bring them (Dwarfs) back from Qlippoth before it's too late; before they are lost forever.” The Nameless Dwarf (The Ravine Butcher) was attempting to make amends for his past deeds. The punishment for his evil was to lose his name and memory. The memory had returned but he still did not know his name. Nameless saved Nils from the clutches of the Brau and Ilesa. Soon the pair met The Antman. So begins the journey.
D.P. Prior has a talent for characterization. He deftly created Silas, Nameless and Nils. They work well together. The plot of this book is dark, filled with sorcery, brutal fights, and more than a few monsters. While the plot is very dark I also saw just a tad of humor. Prior is a master at imagery. His pen paints a vivid picture of the realms and the characters; such as the scene where Nameless was getting a haircut was so vivid I could see the sweep of the razor. Fans of science fiction and fantasy will enjoy The Ant Man of Malfen the Nameless Dwarf.
