The Adventures of Cargo the Army Truck: The Long and Muddy Road! by Paul Dekmetzian is a children’s book that narrates the story of an army truck called Cargo. Specially built for rough and muddy roads, equipped with large wheels, a big winch, wheel chains, and strong headlights, Cargo the truck starts his journey across the country to deliver important supplies to a certain town. On his journey, Cargo the truck encounters old friends like Chook the Chinook, an army transport helicopter that was flying on his journey, and a lovely dog who was in great need of a new family and better care. Will Cargo succeed in his journey? What other amazing adventures and unique encounters await him?
One of the aspects that I liked about The Adventures of Cargo the Army Truck by Paul Dekmetzian is that through the humanization of Cargo the army truck, the author not only tells a story but also educates the young reader about different aspects regarding the vehicle and the road he follows. For example, I learned the different characteristics of an army truck, designed to be rugged and resist rough roads, with large wheels, a big winch, chains for snow and mud, and special headlights. I also liked how well the illustrations depicted events described by the author, such as the scene where Cargo meets the lonely and hungry dog.
