Tears of the Deflowered: Silent No More is a work of fiction with strong Christian themes, penned by author JJ Staples. Focused on the after-effects of living with abuse, this novel continues the story of the character Lyric after the events of the Deflowered Lyric novel. In this new tale, Lyric continues her own battle in coming to terms with abuse, whilst at the same time supporting her best friend Nicke and Nicke’s daughter Jada, who has suffered childhood sexual abuse from her stepfather. Jada’s own family issues are brought to the fore as all the women of the tale look to the strength of God to help them through this awful time.
Author JJ Staples has created a supremely powerful and pertinent story that not only entertains as a novel but educates as a strong morality tale of modern issues, fortitude and human love despite extreme tragedy. All of the characters were well developed to the point where it felt like I was reading about true life events. Lyric as the central narrator offers a strong but vulnerable perspective on how the road to recovery from abuse can wind and weave, but also be healed by faith and our love and support for other people. Jada’s story, too, was harrowing yet hopeful, always keeping the reader gripped as we wonder who she can really trust and how her emotions will develop as time goes by. Overall, Tears of the Deflowered: Silent No More is an excellent work of dramatic fiction and social issues, a book not to be missed.
