Tamed by a Highlander is set in those historic years in England's history when King James is about to be crowned while his nephew, William, waits in the wings for his own turn to govern. Connor Grant left his Scottish Highland home and lovely Mairi MacGregor seven years before to serve in King James' army. Meanwhile, in this time of intrigue, Mairi has trained as a very unladylike combat-ready spy, leaving her beloved Scotland to journey into England and onto London to find out which of their close acquaintances is an informant for the Dukes of Monmouth and Argyll, enemies of Connor's King James. Mairi and Connor have longed for each other over the years. Will they finally come together as lovers amid all the intrigue and the intentions of other noble suitors?
Paula Quinn has crafted a well-written and well-edited love story set in Stuart England. Her knowledge of this period in history shines throughout the text, and her list of characters in the front of the book is an invaluable aide to the reader who will refer to it throughout the story. All characters, major and minor, are three-dimensional and make Tamed By a Highlander more than just another love story. The reader will smile as Connor's mother plots with King James' wife, Mary of Modena, to bring Mairi and Connor together. Quinn's use of the vernacular Scottish lingo adds to the story's authenticity. This is a well-recommended addition to any romantic history buff's collections.
