I really liked the concept of Susurrus Episode Two (A Necessary Journey) by Rory Tillitson. What isn't to love about the idea of a computer controlled boat? Throw in the fact that there is a beautiful, mysterious woman who needs to get out of town quickly and quietly, and you have the makings for a great adventure novel! This premise reminded me of some of the greats like Clive Cussler.
I love the setting of the boat and the sea and the islands. Again, what a cool place to set a story and a really interesting topic to read about. I enjoyed all of the information I was able to learn about boats, sailing, island hopping, and spending time on the ocean from this story. A lot of the dialogue on the boat between the computer and the chats were well done, too.
I enjoyed the romance in the story as well. Some people might think it is a little clichéd having the damsel in distress rescued by the hunky main character (who is just as brilliant as he is dashing), but again, I think that is a great recipe for an awesome adventure novel. Dirk Pitt always got the girl (and it was a different girl in every Clive Cussler novel) and let's not even mention James Bond. I felt having the romance element kind of broke up some of the seriousness of the computer and boating explanations and helped pull me back into the story.
