"Surreal Killer" has been obstinate and evil from early on in her existence. Her parents, so disturbed by her personality, actually HATE her . . . and she is still a child! Deciding that she needs to move her showbiz career from beauty contests to something bigger, she is moved by the opportunity to be a magician's assistant. The magician, who truly holds the gift of m-a-g-i-c straight from angels, baffles his audiences and disrupts any semblance of calm everywhere he goes. Beyond the thin shade of stage presence lies something darker . . . something dirty . . . something destructive. Let's just say that you do not want to hit anybody in their town who is walking or riding a bicycle. It is, after all, Surreal Killer's pet peeve.
Written for the most part without punctuation and in chunks for paragraphs, it is somewhat difficult to get into the rhythm of the writer but by the end of the book it becomes easier and makes sense. I found this method of writing to add to the angst and the disturbance of the characters as I, the reader, had an edge of anxiety in the back of my mind as I tried to sort through the important thoughts from the random stuff (without punctuation). By the end, though, I felt as though I knew the Magician-- also known as The Hobo Under The Bridge-- and the Surreal Killer and loosely understood them. This is not a book for everyone but for those who like this kind of genre, but for them it will be a great read!
