Supreme Mission: The Truth Died Twice by Steve Guilfoos is a riveting political thriller with rock solid characters. The Turkish Prime Minister is assassinated and US Vice-President Levi Madison, who has been campaigning to be the nominee for the Democratic Party in the upcoming elections, is sent by President Joyce Sanderson to represent the United States at his funeral. In Turkey, he meets the Prime Minister of Israel, Baruch Ben-Ahron, an old ally. But the night before the funeral, Madison is abducted and thus begins a complicated, deftly plotted story involving a terrorist group known as LORA, the FBI, and the Secret Service. The president is about to execute her own plan. Will she succeed and what are the consequences for US external relations?
Supreme Mission: The Truth Died Twice is a masterly work with characters that are rich and real. The author demonstrates an expert grasp of international relations and constructs a landscape in which the conflict evolves and develops. The terrorist group is well-coordinated and evasive and it is interesting to follow experts from the Secret Service and the FBI at they pursue clues and work hard to unravel the mystery. Every moment becomes crucial as the story advances and the curiosity of the reader is piqued as they read on, trying to figure out what could happen next. Steve Guilfoos' plotting is deft, filled with unexpected twists and surprises that no one could foresee. The prose is fluid and the author does an impeccable job in capturing the atmosphere and the pulse of the characters. It is an ingeniously plotted and intelligently written thriller. A page-turner.
