Strain of Resistance by Michelle Bryan is a post apocalyptic novel. There is a lot of apocalyptic fiction lately and 50% of the time it is hit and miss. The writers open the novels with a bang, but they are unable to carry it on further into the plots. Ms. Bryan is among those rare writers who can do this genre justice and keep it at 100% all the time.

The story follows the struggle of Bixby, one of the few surviving humans left on Earth. Things changed for Earth when she was 12 years old; there was a strange mist that turned humans into monsters. The ones who survived with their humanity intact only became prey for the ones who changed. She lost everything to this mysterious enemy; she lost her life, her future, the man she loved, and her family. But she will not let it go further. The enemy is only getting stronger, becoming more intelligent, and she will do whatever it takes to survive and end this!

What a protagonist! Bixby is strong, resilient, and something out of this world, but still extremely relatable. The characters are gritty and raw, as they should be, and this just makes them that much more believable. The environment was ideal for the world she created. The novel was thrilling, satisfying, and made me beg for the sequel! Simply amazing.
