On Block Island off the coast of Rhode Island in 1786, the slave called Hannibal has never forgotten that in his homeland of Africa, he was the son of an Asantehene king. For years now the slaves on Block Island have cleared its rocky soil to make it suitable for planting crops. They have all been promised their freedom if they take those rocks and form a wall that reaches across the island. But now in 1786, the slaves have found that they cannot build without their master's permission. Hannibal has never been popular with the other slaves and with their white masters although he bonds with Quepag and the other Native Americans, the Mohegans, who inhabit Block Island. Hannibal uses placing the stones together as he builds a wall to let off his anger at the verbal and physical abuse he must endure although his master, Sam Williams, is not the worst of men. But can tormented Revolutionary War ship captain Alexander Hawkins and religious but weakly David Merkling from England help make a difference for the slaves, their masters, and the Native Americans on Block Island?

"Stone Wall Freedom: the slave" is the final book in David Tucker's historic trilogy that will keep readers absorbed until the book's last pages. The characters are complex but totally believable. The dialogue is authentic to the time period but totally readable for the reader of today. The plot-line moves smoothly to the story's surprising conclusion, making "Stone Wall Freedom" a book that historical novel fans will love. They will want to read the first two novels in this trilogy if they haven't done so already.
