Stone Heart is the first installment of The Ailigh Wars Saga by Peter J. Merrigan. When his father realizes the looming threat posed by the foreign invaders, eight-year-old Aed is sent to train as a warrior with the O Mordha. Soon, his sister Grainne leaves the village to become a druid. In Ailigh, Aed becomes friends with another boy named Ronan, a talented marksman who seeks to evade the hold his chieftain has over him. While the friends distinguish themselves amongst their peers, the entire country is ravaged by foreign invaders who gain ground with each passing day. After a raid in Aed's childhood village, his youngest sister Bec is taken as a sex slave by an invader. Aed and Ronan must now prepare themselves for the greatest battle of their lives.
Stone Heart is an enthralling romance war novel set during the Celtic era in ancient Ireland. Author Peter J. Merrigan tells a gripping tale of love, loss, family, and war that keeps hold of you from start to finish. Full of romance, political intrigue, tragedy, and action, the plot keeps your eyes glued to the pages with numerous twists and turns that never let your attention waver. The characters have heroic personalities, and it's easy to root for them. Aed and Ronan's relationship forms the bedrock of the narrative, and it provides much of the plot thrust. The ending feels a bit bittersweet yet satisfying, nonetheless. If you enjoy TV shows like Vikings, you're going to love Stone Heart.
