Spacevasion by Deepak Menon is a powerful, well-imagined, and masterfully crafted blend of sci-fi and fantasy. Fans of thrillers will love this work immensely. The world is threatened by an imminent attack — an invasion from an alien fleet specialized in space fights — and it seems it is not technologically equipped to face such might. Something must be done and fast if humankind hopes to survive the future. Everyone’s hopes rest on a small team of scientists led by John Kriel, and the question is can they find the answer to the impending threat to our space? If yes, can they find the answer in time to save the world?
Deepak Menon writes well, a style that is inimitable and compelling. One of the things I enjoyed is that the author doesn’t shy away from telling and he does so in a very beautiful way. The plot is interesting and well-paced, with tension interspersed in a calculated manner to create interest in readers. This tension animates the work and it is built around the sense of urgency that permeates the crisis described in the story. The characters are very convincing, although the story is set in a future world with its very complex problems. It is interesting to see how the author integrates key climate and environmental issues in the work. The thought that the earth can become inhabitable is a crushing one and it has been making headlines in some quarters. This is a call — a powerful one — to humankind to rethink its future. Spacevasion is a beautifully written story that is as entertaining as it is revealing.
