Sometimes, I Have a Heart, by K.G. Ginley, is a moving collection of poetry about human nature in all its forms. The poems you'll find in this volume are insightful, inspiring, and relatable. Ginley touches on the emotional, common aspects of life that most people can connect with. Some of the poems are painted with a broad brush, like the ones about nature and our place in it, while others are more specific and personal, but all of them convey messages in varying shades of color and mental pictures. This poet seems to have a natural gift for writing poems about human emotions and experiences, from love to pain. Some feel as urgent and efficient as a sung ballad or micro fiction, while others unwind in the imagination in a leisurely way.
Sometimes when reading poetry, you can learn a lot about yourself and what you think. Ginley has a way of distilling complex thoughts into images and phrases we can understand, and it's this artful process that makes this set of poems appealing. In the way that music can soothe a troubled soul or shine a light on a universal truth, like coming of age, so can poetry, and this volume does that for you. From the first poem, "Virginia, My Love", you will be treated to visceral images that tell a story in your imagination, and Ginley's talent holds up throughout the entire collection. I like her snapshot way with lines, like "The Great Drought of Growing Up", and "the silver in my soul". If you like poems that leap off the page and have something to say directly to you about yourself and the world, then you will love Sometimes, I Have a Heart by K.G. Ginley.
