Something Completely Crazy! More Poems and Ramblings by Christopher Dyer is a compilation of poetry that runs from light to serious, homely to amusing. Each poem in the book manages to feel authentically Dyer's, whether he is speaking on his passion for horses or dipping into controversial topics such as the legalization of prostitution. Each poem is a short, quick read and while most of them do not rhyme, there is such a pure essence to each one that a reader may find themselves rereading quite a few of them.
I also enjoyed Christopher Dyer's collection of ramblings, which is what makes up the second half of the title. Though Something Completely Crazy! is comprised mostly of poetry, I feel the prose is a nice addition. Some of them are just random thoughts that we all have from time to time, while others highlight stories of friends and coworkers. Dyer crafts a really enjoyable body of work in Something Completely Crazy! His words have an Everyman quality to them that makes it very easy to relate to, which I'm sure was Dyer's intent, and I'm sure he will inspire a few budding poets. His words flow really well and do a really good job of evoking a mood, whether it is pensive, light hearted or crazy, as the title suggests.
Something Completely Crazy! is Christopher Dyer's first published work of poetry, but I'm sure we will see more of him in the future, and perhaps his furry companion will make a reappearance as well.
