In Snakes and Lovers by Anne Lovett, Daisy Harrison is happy with her existence working as a barmaid in Daytona Beach, Florida. Since her last divorce Daisy has given up on love. Then she receives news that her parents' 40-year-old marriage is in trouble. She has to return to her childhood town of Sawyer, Georgia to stop them from separating for good. With two divorces under her belt, Daisy is not a marriage expert and besides, she is currently looking after her friend Lorelei's son Raj and pet python while she is out of town. When Lorelei doesn't return, Daisy arranges care for Raj and heads to Sawyer on her ex-husband's purple bus. When she arrives in Sawyer, Daisy discovers two stowaways on the bus; Raj and his python. As Daisy tries to convince her mother, Moo, to forgive her husband's betrayal, Daisy has to face the person who broke her heart 19 years ago, former boyfriend Luke. Events in Sawyer become complicated as Luke wants to make amends and join her on a mercy mission to New Orleans. Once they arrive in New Orleans, they face a possible kidnapping and robbery. Daisy has some tough decisions to make. Is she ready to become a responsible adult? Can Daisy take a chance on love again?

Snakes and Lovers by Anne Lovett is such a funny situational comedic novel. Anne has created some superb characters who are very realistic with their own unique distinctive personalities. The dialogue is sharp and quick-witted. There were so many scenes throughout the story that made me laugh out loud especially the seance. Moo, the mother, was my absolute favorite character. Her obscure sayings about life were so comical even though I think they were meant to be profound and intelligent. Moo and Raj's relationship was heartwarming; she really took the little boy under her wing and treated him like the grandson she never had. Daisy was a great protagonist. I think everyone has met someone like her that falls from one disaster to another and is coerced into situations she is not happy with. Luke was a tremendous balance in her life and there was a fantastic chemistry between them. Snakes and Lovers is far more than a humorous novel; the plot covers some important issues such as personal relationships, past resentment, jealousy, forgiveness, and miscommunication. There was also a very important message threaded throughout the storyline regarding missed opportunities and that it's never too late to give up on your dreams and goals.

It takes parents going mad, a jewel thief, a python, and a precocious boy to reacquaint two star-crossed lovers in the humorous romance novel, Snakes and Lovers by Anne Lovett. Nineteen years ago, Daisy believed her boyfriend Luke betrayed her with her best friend and hasn't spoken to him since. After college and two disastrous marriages, Daisy chooses to become a beach bum and moves to Florida. Ironically, in one day, her chosen life goes topsy-turvy. When she is coerced into caring for her friend's snake, followed by a call from her brother stating that their parents have flipped and she needs to come home and help, Daisy grudgingly packs the snake and heads homeward. Upon her arrival, Daisy is shocked to find her childhood home deteriorating, her mother transformed into a spiritualist, her father gone off to sing in bars and dives, and Raj, an underage stowaway, hidden in her van next to his snake. In a twist of fate, Luke is the key to fixing everything. But can Daisy let the past go and allow him to help?

With an entertaining plot and charming characters, Snakes and Lovers by Anne Lovett is a comedic novel with a romantic twist. It is a sensational second-chance romance depicting the final exasperating and painful steps in a woman's journey in connecting with her twin flame. All of the characters form captivating pageantry portraying the ups and downs of pride, stubbornness, happiness, and love. Raj's precociousness and Daisy's parents' peculiar quirks created enjoyable comic relief and are perfect foils for the drama skimming just below the surface of the plot, keeping the story light, funny, and engaging. I especially enjoyed Raj and Daisy's mother, Moo/Madame Esmeralda, and their amusing antics. It is an enchanting novel that will entertain everyone who savors stories laced with laughter and romance.

Snakes and Lovers by Anne Lovett is a humorous mystery story. Daisy has moved to Daytona to escape a failed relationship, heartbreak, and betrayal but a call from her brother sets her on the journey back home to patch up her parents’ marriage. The trouble is, she’s been landed with looking after Raj, her best friend's son, and Bogart, a five-foot python. Arriving home, she runs into Luke, the man who broke her heart, and despite everyone protesting that she give him a second chance, she shies away. A road trip to New Orleans sees her accompanied by Raj, Bogart, and, against her better wishes, Luke, where they run afoul of a jewel thief. There’s more to her best friend than she thought and Daisy is about to find out the truth. What will happen to Daisy, Luke, and Raj? Can Daisy forgive and give love another try?

Snakes and Lovers by Anne Lovett is a funny tale of love and mystery and it's one of those books that you won’t want to put down once you start reading it. It isn’t a long book but the story flows well and is action-packed all the way through. It reminded me a little of the Stephanie Plum books, with lots of laughs, love, and capers along the way, with a python and a dodgy jewel thief thrown in for good measure. The main characters are well developed, real people with real flaws and likable personalities. You will be rooting for Daisy and Raj and you’ll be mentally pushing her at Luke, urging her to do the right thing. It’s an easy read, a light-hearted story that will have you giggling in places.
