The first day of school is important in the life of every child and is the moment when they will first experience autonomy and begin the development of their social skills. From the outset, each child must feel safe to interact inside and outside the classroom. They should be encouraged to express their ideas, appreciate teamwork, and be supportive. Slow Moe Goes to School tells us the story of Moe’s first day at school. He is excited but rather slow. During his journey, he is encouraged by all his friends, as he needs a bit more help to get to school on time. Rebecca Rae Williams shares sound advice to show children how much fun it is to go to school.
Slow Moe includes excellent support material. The school teaches children to be independent, critical, and analytical, as their first impression is important. For many children, it’s stressful to leave home and go to school for the first time. In this story, Moe constantly strives to get to school on time because he is excited to learn, and that habit will be easy for children to adopt. The narration is fun, the scenarios are varied, and the illustrations are cheerful. Moe’s road is long, but he gets a lot of support, and the result is worth it. I liked the way Rebecca Rae Williams promotes social skills and how she shows the benefits of teamwork.
