“Ah, what adorable animals,” will be a child’s first reaction when opening the book Sloan the Sloth Loves Being Different. The cuddly, huggable forest creatures fill the pages with big eyes and colorful tones. Author Misty Black has created another wonderful story to add to her collection of entertaining picture books with a subtle message. Her newest book helps children to understand their strengths and weaknesses and to accept themselves as they are. This adventure book combines an interesting story and outstanding illustrations, with a hint of accepting yourself. An assortment of animals who each have a talent, but when they get together they have something in common—they love to laugh. Children will also get a glimpse of each animal’s strengths—who can climb the fastest or who can get the most acorns in their mouths.
Sloan the Sloth Loves Being Different is a fun and wonderful animal adventure, which showcases several different animals that have become friends. Author Misty Black’s book displays empathy and inclusion—qualities we’d like to see in children.
