Charlotte has been having dreams of a woman who was hanged for the crime of witchcraft. Elizabeth Gray Bruce was a possible ancestor who had been condemned to death by frightened villagers on March 5, 1819. She was found guilty of murder by witchcraft. Charlotte learned about her during a course on herbs and nutrition while she was studying to be a nurse. This course also introduced her to the study of Wiccan beliefs and everything started for her from there. She began to study and practice Wicca. With it, she planned to save her ancestor from a terrifying death. Charlotte knew many things could go wrong but she stuck to her goal to go back into the past to prevent Elizabeth’s death. After she succeeded, she planned to go back to her own time but living in the past has helped her form strong bonds and find a place for herself. Will Charlotte succeed in saving Elizabeth? What consequences will befall her for changing the past? Read Sky Watcher: A Shadow in Time by Heather Lynn to find out!
Heather Lynn’s Sky Watcher is a fantastical historical romance with a first-person narrative. My first thought when I read the book was that Charlotte was a stronger and more forgiving person than I was. Her best friend and ex-boyfriend got together a year after Charlotte and her ex broke up. Still, despite everything, she still found it in herself to be happy for them and wish them the best. That takes a special kind of strength. Charlotte’s adventure to the past was exciting. I can imagine that navigating a place and time different from what you were used to was not easy but Charlotte was resourceful and she managed to make a place for herself despite the uncertainty. The mixture of Wiccan lore and time travel created a unique fantasy story packed with memorable characters and unexpected twists in the plotline. In her journey to rescue someone, Charlotte unintentionally saved herself as well. She met new characters that helped her grow and showed her unconditional love. Unfortunately, despite the many people who loved her, danger still lurked. The book left me with so many questions and the ending made me want to scream. I am enthralled and I can’t wait for the next part of this series. Outstanding job!
