Author Biography

Sheila is an independent author who enjoys writing for the sake of writing.

Sheila Rae Myers began writing poetry and short stories soon after graduating from college. She considers her first attempt at writing a novel a complete failure. In her words, "I failed to listen to my English professor's sound advice. I was writing to put words on paper, but I wasn't writing about topics for which I had a passion." She began to feel that novels with a detective as a main character would be the perfect way to combine her interest in the crime solving process and the desire to create unique characters and plots. That combination proved to be the key to the completion of several novels based on the life and career of Detective Jake Stalb.

Although her goal is to eventually be able to stay at home and pursue writing as a full time career, Sheila currently works for a printed plastics company during the day and accomplishes most of her writing in the evenings. Her training and experience includes ten years in the military medical field and earning a B.S. in environmental science. While she doesn't have any hands-on experience in law enforcement, she states that "in-depth research into that field adds realism and believability to my novels." She also enjoys a variety of other activities including reading, researching her family history, walking in the woods, camping, and bowling. One of her favorite things is the opportunity to watch the wildlife which often moves through the yard of her semi-rural home.

Skulls of Hatred is the story of Jake Stalb and his Special Crimes Task Force. The crime they are investigating has many twists and turns and the suspect leaves clues as he steals two objects from each different religious house he robs. He then leaves a note with a picture of a skull in their place. He is a crafty thief whose goal is to turn each of the religions against each other and he believes in so doing he will destroy all of them. As Jake and the Task Force slowly put the pieces together, it becomes even more confusing and more urgent to find the Skull Man. The fingerprints they find turn out to be those of a dead man, once again stumping the team. Skull Man watches in the shadows and believes he will never be caught as he taunts Jake’s team by sending them notes containing clues. Jake and the members of the Task Force work long and hard, never giving up.

I really enjoyed this mystery and didn’t have a clue as to who Skull Man might be. It was suspenseful, exciting, and kept me involved until the very last word. Sheila Rae Myers has created a great group with Jake Stalb, his Task Force, and the families who stay at home and worry. Skulls of Hatred had me hooked from the very first page with the characters jumping off the page and into my head as real people. I am planning on putting all of Sheila Rae Myers’ other books onto my Kindle so I can read them all. Don’t miss Skulls of Hatred; it is a really good mystery story.

Loved It!

I started reading books by Sheila Myers, starting with her Detective Jake Series. I've been hooked ever since and couldn't wait for Skulls of Hatred to become available. Just as I knew it would, this book was definitely worth the wait. I enjoyed it immensely.

A string of burglaries leave Jake and his team in a slight state of disarray. When they discover the types of items that are being stolen, a pattern begins to form. Their prior experience-along with the statements from the witnesses and victims-help narrow down the UNSUB's motive, but a heightened sense of awareness formulates after the crimes become more personalized and innocent victims suffer the consequences. As with every crime scene that Jake and his team have encountered in the past, careful consideration is given to each, and tiny clues help piece together the puzzle. Skulls of Hatred will leave you mystified until it all comes together in the end and just proves that you never know what drives people to do outrageous things.

Another great one by Ms. Myers, this one will not disappoint. Be sure to read the rest of the Detective Jake books as well-you'll be happy you did!
