JoAnn Wagner’s Sir Pigglesworth's Adventures in Vancouver, the second installment in the Sir Pigglesworth Adventure Series, is a children’s book that continues the quirky misadventures of a mischievous young pig. This "royal" piglet departs the London airport with the goal of surprising his parents in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The only problem is that, once he reaches Vancouver, he has no idea where his parents might be! His search for his parents takes him to a pumpkin patch, a boat ride to a big park, and a zoo. He catches a glimpse of his parents on a trolley ride at a huge outdoor park, but is unable to catch up with them. Though he is unable to find his parents, he does discover a clue to their next destination … a note written in his mother’s handwriting that shows they are heading for New York City!
Kids' books are by no means my area of expertise, but Sir Pigglesworth's Adventures in Vancouver was, in a word, delightful. The dialog is simple, straightforward, and age appropriate. I absolutely loved how the author incorporated actual well-known Vancouver locations and attractions into the story. The author’s details and descriptions prompted me to go online and perform searches on these places. I am confident that parents and children who enjoy this book together will do the same.
David Darchicourt’s illustrations are nothing short of stellar. Indeed, they are what makes this book really stand out. The colors are vibrant, with beautiful splashes of the primary colors throughout. Each illustration perfectly complements the corresponding text and helps bring the story to life. I have a four-year-old granddaughter. This book is perfect for her. I know that she will identify with the mischievous little pig. I’m recommending the series to her parents. Five stars.
