Sir Flapalot the Dragon Knight (The Magic of Being Yourself) by Charly Froh is a children’s picture book that will appeal most to an audience of young readers who enjoy fantasy stories. Sir Flapalot might look like a normal dragon, but he has a hidden secret; unlike the other fiery dragons, he can’t breathe fire. Sir Flapalot decides to keep the fact that he can breathe bubbles a secret out of fear of being laughed at. Yet, when his home falls under a curse, it might just take his bubble power to save it.
Sir Flapalot the Dragon Knight by Charly Froh is a well-written children’s book with wonderful illustrations by Zuzana Svobodová. I love the way the author created a fantasy story that children can enjoy while also including a lesson about how it is important to be true to oneself. The premise of the story reminded me a little of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in how both characters are different from their peers, yet in the end, their difference proves to be what saves the day. That said, I like the fact that this story can be enjoyed year-round and is not based on a single holiday. The author did an amazing job of creating characters that children can relate to while also being entertained by the story. Overall, this is a wonderful children’s book that I would recommend to all parents with young children especially those that enjoy magic and fantasy stories.
