We join Detective Adie Sturm as she unravels the brutal murder of a billionaire couple. Her discovery of a body in a Mayan cenote in Cozumel sets off a suspenseful investigation filled with strong characters and unexpected twists. Amidst sexual tension and dangerous pursuits, Adie delves into a prostitution ring, gambling debts, and Russian Mafia threats. Despite police warnings, she remains determined to uncover the truth while dodging attempts on her life.
Author Anastasia Amor crafts a thrilling and engrossing mystery that masterfully weaves together suspense and intrigue. I was hooked from the first page by Adie Sturm, who is a captivating protagonist; smart, gutsy, and relentless in her pursuit of justice. The narrative keeps us firmly involved in her emotional and psychological journey so that we root for her and see her grow from the challenges she faces, and I loved the intensity of the dialogue to further the plot and bring emotions to the forefront even more. The steamy Cozumel setting added a rich, exotic backdrop to the story, heightening the sense of danger and allure, and the sexual tension was palpable, providing a great contrast to the darker elements of the plot. The twists and turns, involving a prostitution ring and the Russian Mafia, kept me guessing with excellent pacing and a sense of just the right moment to drop us suddenly into the next discovery. Amor's ability to create vivid, memorable scenes shows her talent for blending suspense with detailed, atmospheric writing. Overall, Sinful and Dead is a riveting mystery that will suit fans of detailed, suspenseful crime writing.
