I ADORED (this) book. As a teenager it really spoke to me. Readers will be engaged into Dove’s tale Shoot the Wounded from page one. This book hits so close to home for teenagers and young adults. This tale spins through the emotions of teenagers Ronnie, Leigh and Jake and everyone can find a bit of themselves in the characters. This story is a must read for youth groups, Christian teenagers and even for non-believers and will inspire and captivate audiences for years to come. It is a emotionally liberating novel and a very well written piece of literature. Dove’s talent with words allows the audience to connect more completely with the emotional ride this book takes them on. Five stars!

I read a great book that I think those of you who are teenagers and young adults will really enjoy it. It's called Shoot the Wounded. It's basically about the things that we teenagers are usually faced with every day - relationships, teen pregnancy, all that jazz. The book follows two teenage girls who meet a guy (this sounds familiar yet? ;) and problems ensue. The great thing is that the entire book is relevent to actually problems that we face in 2010, stuff that so many books don't address. Also, the second book, Heal the Wounded, just came out. The second book follows what happens to one of the girls after the first book (sorry, can't really tell you more without ruining the first book). There's another guy in the picture, more drama, and more high school social infastructure. (I bet that part sounds familiar to some of you too). At any rate, they are both really good books that actually choose to address stuff that us teenagers have to deal with, as opposed to stuff adults think we deal with. I really think you all should take a look at some of the stuff in them. Read them!

I just finished Shoot the Wounded. I actually read the sequel first, Heal the Wounded, and thought I had missed a few key elements so I read Shoot the Wounded to fill in the blanks. All I can say is WOW! What a great couple of books! The first book is about three friends, Jake, Ronnie and Leigh who have their friendship threatened when the school's gossip, Janelle starts to spread rumours about them, particularly whether Jake fathered Ronnie's baby.
Throughout the book the lies, and rumours threaten to destroy friendships and I appreciated how Dove threaded this theme throughout the book. So often we read about bullying from the physical side, we don't tend to realize that gossip can be just as harmful to a person's spirit.
I definitely think this book should be read by parent's, teachers, as well as students because it will begin discussions on the hazards of spreading rumours and gossip.
The book also deals with serious topics such as teen pregnancy, and family violence.
I definitely give this book five stars!

One of my true passions is study of 19th Century Christian thought. It is a broad and sometimes complex area of study that goes far beyond the scope of texts and academic research. Much of that century and the movements in society at that time are reflected in the literature produced outside the academic world and even the church. Writers such as Emerson provided profiles of social ills and the transition of thought in Christendom as the wants and demands of a growing nation unfolded. Indeed, much can be gleaned from many of the writings published in that century. This theorem holds true for literary works of today as well. Among the printed word published in this time is a trilogy of works by Lynn Dove that undoubtedly reflects the social pressures and issues that face people today. The series of books provides an uncanny reflection of our Christian culture and the thought behind the faith that guides everyday actions. I can think of no better source for insight into the very heart and minds of Christians as they come to grip with the realities of the world and the often complicated ways we interact with others. These three books “Love the Wounded; Heal the Wounded; Shoot the Wounded” would themselves serve as a text for the study of ourselves as much as any social-psychology text available. In many ways this trilogy of keen observations in humanity is become a source for my own reflections as a Christian and as instructive in the perplexities that seem to perpetually develop in that walk. Although works of fiction, these compositions provide a great deal more than entertaining plots and characters; they become so engrossing that ones natural curiosity and emotion begin to dictate a ravenous desire to read every word savoring the experience throughout.
