Shekinah by Kelly Sebastina is the story of a teen's deep desire for an older man who, though her mother calls him Uncle Chris, is not actually her uncle. As Angie fantasizes about him, she continually struggles with a voice that is working inside of her head, though at first she does not understand it. As Angie works her seduction and Chris responds, the pain and confusion of her first time cause her to wonder if it is all what she thought it was or a cheap hoax. As she delves into the experience deeper, however, she begins to take control and feel the power that she has begin to flow over her as Shekinah begins to reveal herself as the goddess who provides the Nectar of Immortality. The profound question is whether or not Angie will allow Shekinah to completely overtake her and be one with her, or will she continue to engage in an intense power struggle with the goddess?
Though Shekinah appears at first as a slow seduction which rapidly changes into a power-driven hunger, Kelly Sebastina has hidden numerous messages between the lines which relate to ancient beliefs of Greeks, Celts, and other ancient Eastern cultures that worshiped women because they held the secret to creating life. As the reader moves through the pages, Angie's struggles and emotions as Shekinah begin to overtake her and the rituals that she performs with Chris become very real. Sensual, cryptic and profound; those who are able to read between the lines and understand how Shekinah asserts herself through this story will enjoy a new sense of enlightenment.
