Shadows On Iron Mountain is a mystery novel written by Chuck Walsh. Kara and Jason are celebrating their second anniversary with a trip to the Appalachian Mountains in Tennessee. They've rented a small cabin on Iron Mountain, and it's almost dark by the time they get there. Unknown to them is the fact that another young couple had stayed there less than a year before, and the woman had disappeared without a trace. Jason and Kara spend their first day sightseeing and return to the cabin. When Jason wakes up after a nap, Kara is nowhere to be found. The local authorities contact the Knoxville Police Department to ask for assistance, and Thomas Jordan of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation sets off for Johnson County to head the investigation.
Chuck Walsh's mystery, Shadows On Iron Mountain, is taut and suspenseful. Iron Mountain looms overhead, dark and brooding, as Jordan travels through what is to all intents and purposes a foreign and hostile land, even for a country boy. I could see the deep woods and feel the chill of the water as Jordan crashes through the brush, dodging bullets and hidden assailants. The people who help Jordan in the hunt for the women and their abductor are finely drawn and larger-than-life, especially the guide, Emma Douglas, and Rubin Sawyer, who had been raised on Iron Mountain and has his own scores to settle. There are secrets on Iron Mountain, and people willing to die to protect them and their way of life. Shadows On Iron Mountain is a phenomenal and compelling read, and one I won't be forgetting anytime soon. It's most highly recommended.
