Secret Kill (Noir Nights Book 2) is written by Robin Storey. Successfully leaving a prior life of crime, and an abusive father and addictive mother, Jackson Forbes married an adventurous woman named Lindsey and worked his way up as a successful managing director with help from his in-laws in the bustling city of Melbourne, Australia. Enter a disheveled-looking young woman named Frida, who appears in his office to inform Jackson that she is his daughter. As more evidence is presented by her, Forbes learns she is the child of his drug addict girlfriend Carol, from years past. Soon Forbes learns Frida is in danger. The young woman killed a man that was trying to rape her. The man she killed was an enforcer for a notorious crime boss. She is desperate. One thing leads to another and Jackson Forbes is neck-deep involved in trying to save her life. On the way, his sordid past is catching up with him.
Secret Kill (Noir Nights Book 2) by Robin Storey gives the reader a many-layered plot as told by reformed criminal Jackson Forbes, the narrator and chief protagonist. There are enough twists and turns in the plot to keep the reader engaged, hoping for a certain outcome. The more you learn of Jackson Forbes’s present life, as well as his past, is compelling reading. Like the peeling of an onion, each layer of the story carefully leads to another. The dialogue adds to the overall storytelling and the fact that it takes place “down under” helps too. Secret Kill is a suspenseful tale, as the reader is never sure what the outcome will be until the very end.
