Second-Story Man by Robert P. Rowe is a highly imaginative and masterfully written M/M love story with a truly unique twist – love arrives through an open second-story window! Carlos, down on his luck and desperate for cash, attempts to rob reclusive Michael through Michael’s open window on a hot summer evening, only to find himself waking up naked on Michael’s bed with a concussion. This is off-putting to Carlos, who is straight and deeply suspicious of Michael’s intentions. Too compassionate to turn an injured man back out on the street, Michael begins to care for Carlos, offering him shelter (and some very specific house rules) until he gets back on his feet. This uneasy roommate situation gradually evolves, against all odds, into a passionate romance, to the surprise of both the readers and the characters.
Robert P. Rowe’s Second Story-Man is absolutely un-put-downable from the first page to the last. Rowe’s characters are deeply human, and he reveals the infinitesimal steps that Carlos and Michael take on the way to the full realization of their love with such breathtaking detail, so precisely timed, that the reader is quite literally swept away by the progression, which is both completely unexpected and wholly realistic. Second-Story Man is a must-read for those who love to get lost in an authentic love story where, just as in real life, love can come at any time from somewhere we could never have imagined. Second-Story Man is a first-rate and masterfully told M/M romance story of love, triumph, and, ultimately, hope.
