Scarab in the Storm is the third book in The Lost Pharaoh Chronicles by Lauren Lee Merewether. This is a historical fiction tale that takes a look at the history of Egypt and the life of one of the most celebrated rulers of this nation. Being a king is not easy, but Tutankhamun had no idea it would be this harrowing. The once impressive nation of Egypt is crumbling and is being divided. Tutankhamun is scrambling to make sense of it all and trying to find a way to put his nation back on its feet. But he is facing deceit, doubt and political corruption every step of the way and he is not sure who he can trust. To make matters worse, his wife Ankhesenamun is convinced that their lives are in danger. Suddenly it isn’t just the crown at stake. Can Tutankhamun manage the storm and come out of it as a ruler that will go down in history books?
Scarab in the Storm is one of the most intricate, richly detailed and exceptionally well-woven books I have ever read. The execution of the narrative and the plot is excellent. The imagery, descriptions, setting, and dialogues are fitting of the time. I was sucked into the story the moment I read the blurb and I knew it was going to be an epic experience. Author Lauren Lee Merewether breathes life into Tutankhamun and Ankhesenamun; you can tell she did her research on them because everything about them is believable. King Tut is smart, determined and a go-getter, he does not rely on others to get the job done for him and he gets headfirst into the conspiracies to solve them on his own. The element of political deceit is tangible and the action never stops. This is an epic story that you need to read if you are a fan of action or historical fiction.
