"Satan Thinks in Black & White" by Ronald B. Jimmerson chronicles the journey of people of color in the churches of the USA. Jimmerson hits hard in this very frank look at the issue of racism in the congregations of America. He states that "church remains the most segregated place in America" and posits that most people "still show favoritism for their own kind." The author divides "Christians" into categories: the natural Christian, the carnal Christian, the social Christian and the spiritual Christian. He believes that if all those who called themselves Christians were "spirit-filled" there would not be a "Great Divide" between blacks and whites in the church today. Jimmerson makes a valid observation, that we live in a system that views and judges by the outer person rather than the inner person. The primary redemptive message in this book, however, is the work of the Holy Spirit in an open and yielded heart--a circumcised heart!
Filled with scripture references, "Satan Thinks in Black and White" will give the thoughtful reader pause, as you examine your own heart and mind for unjust prejudices. It is difficult to see oneself objectively: "the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. Who can know it." In spite of the injustices that the author has both seen and personally experienced, he finds redemption in the grace of God and instructs the reader to find that redemption through the vehicle of the Holy Spirit and the authentic love that only comes via a relationship with Jesus Christ.
